This impressionist painting is signed "Rocco".
There is a bit of controversy over the origin and value of these types of paintings as the Antiques and the Arts Forum showed recently, as excerpted below. Are these paintings signed "Rocco" really massed-produced art sold by Montgomery Ward in the 1960's? They appear to be quite common.
If you have further information on these types of paintings, or if you have a painting which is signed by "Rocco" and appears to be in a similar style, consider emailing a picture of it to me for posting on this blog. Let's get to the bottom of this.
Personally, I find the paintings to be interesting. They are almost absurdly impressionistic-- almost a cartoon mockery of French Impressionism. Even if they were mass produced, they had to be hand painted by someone with skill. I find the entire phenomenon to be an entertaining scandal, and worthy of some investigation.
